They were, and still are great. We used to buy a bag for a nickel? About
once a month I buy a family size bag and eat the whole bag myself. I'd be
happy to bring several bags to the reunion, just for Oakdale graduates!

You're absolutely correct and I'm with you. I love Cheeze Kurls--not
Cheetos. Karen (Greener)

The Cheetos factory (a little store front) was on Kalamazoo Ave near
Evergreen, but they were called corn curls. We used to watch the man make
them in his garage on the alley. That family actually sold the business and
they are now Cheeze Kurls in a gold & black cellophane bag. They are still
made in Grand Rapids and I like them better than Cheetos. I know they sell
them at Meijer. They are addictive.

Yes. I was beginning to think I was the only one. I did leave in 3rd grade
to live in Kenosha, WI when my Dad was called back to active duty in the
Navy during the Korean War. He commanded a training center on Lake Michigan
while we were there. I returned and started up at Ottawa in the middle of
7th grade and felt like I was a brand new student. Such a big school. I had
to start all over. Do you remember the Cheetos factory at the bottom of the
hill on the way to Oakdale? I had to walk past it every day. I'm still
addicted to Cheetos.

Speaking of grade schools, did anyone else attend Oakdale Elementary, on
Evergreen St. SE?

With the reminiscing about grade schools, maybe we could put up some old
pics of us all from our respective grade schools (I think there were only
three, maybe four) on the homepage if anybody has any of those class
pictures from circa 1951-52 (and can identify some of the kids in them).
Does anybody have a copy of The Legend (year book) from 1954 with our pics?
It would be fun to juxtapose those with the 1959 pics.
The 1959 pics and scanned and up from A (Bobby Allen) through G (Phil
Grubbs). The rest will be up very late Monday night when I get back to town.
Still working out a format and adding some stuff, but if anybody wants to
see where it's at now, send private email and I'll send over the URL. It's
not ready for prime time yet, so I'm getting suggestions on-the-fly.
