Hi ya Dolph! I was especially happy to hear from you. You've already mentioned several names I'd forgotten about. This thing is turning into a real hoot for me and it is increasingly intruding into my daily activities. You're right about Ruth Meengs's nickname, but it wasn't always uttered under our breaths. Later I was to feel real remorse over the brutal treatment we put her through. When I was in her freshman class she had several great chances to vent her hurt and insult on me; instead she was a total professional and gracious person, using the chances to help me grow up and be a better person. That meant a lot to me at the time, and even more as time went on. Her example guided many of my decisions during my 31 years of teaching -get this,- 8th grade English! Some of those crazy, confused times and events can have real consequences. Larry.

eljay -- When my family moved moved away from the Ottawa Hills neighborhood, our house -- a couple of doors from Bruce Romkey's place -- was bought by Ruth Meengs and her husband. Perhaps as a result she always was very kind and generous to me in class. I seem to recall, however, that the term of affection used for her and whispered under the breath of some of her male students was

It scared the living daylights out of me not least because it was the first time
