Yep, that right, he was carrying a bottle of cough medicine.? Lots of us did that.? And I only carried my books in front of my fly when I left Miss Vega's class because that was the most comfortable way.? And the hits just keep on coming.

Here's a picture for you all.? A name you never hear, was Howard Baragar, his dad owned a Shell Station over on Division and Howie always had a cool little Plymouth in perfect shape.? During the summer they were at Port Sheldon and Howie had a pretty fast speedboat for waterskiing.? When the girls went down to Grand Haven for "House Parties"? we (I think it was Howie, Benj Corel, myself, and Stiles)? decided to waterski from Port Sheldon down to the GH State Park and see the girls.? Phil Stiles was the lead guy and he got to the State Park, saw where the girls were, and decided to swoop in to shore on his slalom ski where he would gingerly step off and walk up to them, of course impressing them with his skiing expertise.? Except along the way the ski fin hit the sand bar, and catapulted him out of the?water like a rocket.? When he hit the beach face first, he came up with a mouth full of sand and his swim suit around his knees.? The girls, as I recall, thought it was fairly disgusting;? we on the other hand,
thought it was funnier than hell.? We were soooooo cool back then.

Love you all,
Konk

Marcia,
I remember all of those teachers except Miss Nissela. I got over the cold,
but I still take a swig every now and then. I remember walking home for
lunch. We walked down Blane St, beside the school. Wasn't there a pond down
the hill behind the playground?

Hi, Jim,
?
I also attended Oakdale.? Some of the?teachers I remember are ... Miss
Catel, Miss Teal, Miss Jones, Mrs. Fox, Mrs. Ten Dyke, Miss Marr, Miss
Nissela (sp?), Mr. Andrews & Miss Afman.? The two principals I recall are
Miss Barnes & Mrs Kirchgessner (sp?).? Remember that we had half grade
classes?? Depending on your birthday you either started school in Sept. or
Feb.? In eighth grade, my half grade Feb.class was eliminated at Ottawa.? I
went to summer school so I could move up a half grade.? Those who didn't
attend summer school went back a half grade.? Therefore, I graduated at the
age of 17 from Ottawa Hills.
?
For some reason, Jim, I remember you having a bad cold in elementary
school.? You carried a?bottle of cough syrup in your pocket & would take a
swig of it every once in a while.? I don't think you would be able to do
that in this day and age.? Also, we had an hour & a half for lunch so we
could all walk home for lunch.? Moms did not wander far from home back then.
?
Those are just a few of the things I remember.? I have many?vivid memories
of all my school years.
?
Marcia Baker Baker ( Yes, I married a Baker ).

Speaking of grade schools, did anyone else attend Oakdale Elementary, on
Evergreen St. SE?

With the reminiscing about grade schools, maybe we could put up
some old pics of us all from our respective grade schools (I think
there were only three, maybe four) on the homepage if anybody has
any of those class pictures from circa 1951-52 (and can identify some
of the kids in them).

Does anybody have a copy of The Legend (year book) from 1954 with
our pics? It would be fun to juxtapose those with the 1959 pics.
The 1959 pics and scanned and up from A (Bobby Allen) through G (Phil
Grubbs). The rest will be up very late Monday night when I get back to
town. Still working out a format and adding some stuff, but if anybody
wants to see where it's at now, send private email and I'll send over
the URL. It's not ready for prime time yet, so I'm getting suggestions
on-the-fly.

Jim
