Hi Ann,
I am just now going through all the e-mails for the past weeks since Kim's heart attack/diabetes thing.? I had a total of 980 e-mails and have finally reached the 270 mark after panning through? the 700 plus ones over the week-end.? I am so humbled and greatful for all of the encouraging messages Kim and I received during these long weeks.? I have printed several of them for Kim so that she can see them first hand instead of me just telling her?about them.?
I left her by herself at her insistance to "fly by myself, Mom" this past week-end.? I saw her already this morning, and she's doing just fine.? I'm still a little on the nervous side about not being right there with her if she by chance has something happen, but I am glad that I only live about three to four minutes from her.? Julie, my daughter who lives near you, told me that it was time to put things into the Lord's hands and be at peace that if she needs me for whatever, I am there for her.? Kim has assured me that she will tell me if she needs me there with her too.?
Kim is doing MUCH better.? For the time being, she has tons of medications to take but the doctors have assured her that if she does all that she's supposed to do under?their directions, the meds don't have to be a permanent thing.? She has been rather sedentary for many years, but now she is walking a mile every day, and yesterday even increased that to 1 1/2 miles.? She has changed her diet drastically and is embracing what is needed as far as foods are concerned for her diabetes, and has told me how much better she feels with the foods she's now eating.? That in itself was about a 180 degree turn for her as she has been a take-out queen and junk-food eater ever since I can remember.? Her morale and attitude are coming around too.? We had one week-end plus a couple of days where she went into a rather downward spiral, but fortunately the doctors had warned me that that does happen with some heart patients and not to take it personally or be overly concerned about it.? That was kind of hard, I have to admit
, as I'm always the cockeyed optimist and it was hard to stay above the dark mood she was in.? She is losing weight steadily, and that's wonderful too, as she has had an eating disorder for most of her adult life and has been overweight forever.?
Thanks for sharing all the things that you went through, too.? There were a few of our gang who have really been through some rough stuff physically over the years, and are back to living pretty much "normal lives."? I was so happy to pass those messages on to her-------very good for her to see that there?can be a?healthy full?life ahead?of her.?
I'm so sorry I couldn't get down to Indy to visit and to be with you and Karen over lunch.? It sounds like you had a great time together!!? I will look forward to visiting with you both whenever I am in the area, and also my cousin Mary.?
I am so looking forward to seeing everyone next month.? Thank?you all from my heart for all of your messages.? They are really helping me to keep on keeping on.
Love to you, Ann, and to everyone!!!
Barb (Stormy)

Barb, Just a quick note before I leave for a weekend of soccer
tournaments. How is Kim and more importantly how are you? I hope each
day she has seen some improvement and is getting back on her feet. I
had lunch with Karen yesterday and it was great. Kinda like no time had
passed at all. I wouldn't have missed it. I did let Mary know about
your situation but she said her brother and sister had been in touch
with you sister, I believe. Just know we are all thinking about you
with lots of positive thoughts. Enjoy the weekend.

Dear Ann,
Thank you so very much for your encouraging note.? I was so surprised to
learn that you are a cancer survivor, and breast cancer is such a
complicated bugger and one of the more difficult.? I was diagnosed with
cervical cancer during my pregnancy with my youngest daughter, Angel.?
It was a stage three when I finally?allowed them to proceed with
treatment AFTER she was born.? So, they performed a hysterectomy?four
weeks after her birth.??Cervical cancer is not as complicated as breast
cancer, however, and it's much easier to remove it all.? It has never
come back since.? My husband John, however, wasn't so lucky.? He was
diagnosed with brain cancer in August of 2002, and three weeks later, he
died as it had spread through his brain so quickly.? I've heard so many
people say that cancer is now what the plague was way back when.
Please tell Karen it would be wonderful to get together with her too.?
The trip down next week is now definitely out of the question.? Kim is
doing quite well, all things considered, but I wouldn't feel right
leaving her to deal with it all by herself until she's stronger than she
is at the present time or will be over the next couple of weeks,
anyway.? I've
?been staying with her since I brought her home on Monday
and I will probably be here for the next several days.? She too is a
widow, so when things?happen, we kind of have to look out for each
other.? I'm going to try and consider the 13th as another consideration
as two of my grandchildren have their piano recital on the 14th.? If Kim
is still not strong enough for me to feel comfortable leaving her for a
few days, the next time down there would be in July, for the birthdays
of the other two?grandkids in Brownsburg, but of course that's around
the time of the reunion.? I guess it's got to be one day at a time for
the ti!
me being.
Thank you so much for the prayers; it means so much to both Kim and I to
have so many being lifted up for both of us during this time.? I will
keep you posted for sure.
Fondly,
Barb
?

You know I will keep not only Kim but you as well in my prayers. After
surviving breast cancer, I can tell you there is nothing more powerful.
She is so young to have heart disease, but then Tom's dad had no idea
that he had problems and only lived to be 49 yrs old so she is very
fortunate that she had the heart attack and that they were able to put
the stent in and found other issues that can be treated so it won't be
long and she will start to feel healthy like never before. Please keep
me posted and if we can't get together before the reunion, we will see
you there. By the way Karen Carpenter Millar contacted me and told me
she has lived in the Indy area for many years and wanted to join us for
lunch but we will wait until you are able to come south!!!

Hi Ann,
I don't know if you've noticed that my e-mails have fallen off lately,
almost entirely in fact.? I know this is answering one of your messages
from quite a while ago, but I wanted to get in touch with you quickly
and this was the quickest way.? My oldest daughter, Kim, who is
forty-three years old,?had a major heart attack this past Thursday and
when we got her into the hospital by ambulance, they also discovered
that she has very progressed diabetes to the point they have to put her
on insulin shots immediately.? Added to that is they also discovered
that she has extremely high blood pressure.? They ended up placing two
stents (spelling ?) in the one of the main arteries in her heart as it
was 100% blocked.?
This means some recovery time for her, of course.? I wanted to get this
to you ASAP too, because my trip down to Indiana during the dates I
talked to you about, is now in question.? I'll have to keep you posted
as we go along here.? I am getting read y to pick her up from the
hospital in a couple of hours this morning--------will write again as
soon as I can get some kind of handle on things.??
To any of you?who are prayer warriors, please pray for her recovery and
her health overall, and that she can by some miracle adapt easily to all
the things that are going to have to change in her life now.??
Fondly,
Barb?

This will be great. It has been such fun to reconnect with so many from
the class of 1959. It will make seeing everyone that much more special.
Thanks,

The private emails I rec
eived indicated that a discussion list for the
1959 Ottawa grads would be useful to eliminate the cc list.
There are 79 of us on the list - if you have email addresses for others
you think might not be on, send them to me in private email.
To post to the list, you can either hit "reply" or send the post
to:
ohhs59@venus.soci.niu.edu
(NOTE: Careful when you hit the return key that you don't send out a
private not to everybody)
If you want to be removed from the list, let me know in private email.
A few people have suggested a temporary homepage for putting up names,
email addresses of those who want to share them, reunion details, maybe
scanned pages of our year book pictures from 1959, links to homepages
that some of might already have, Facebook invitations, and
anything else that would be fun. I can put up something primitive and
quick if a homepage sounds useful, but if anybody wants to volunteer to
design something, let me know.
If there's interest in keeping it all going after the reuni
on, we can do
something more permanent.
Jim
