I got to Grand Rapids on Wednesday and had dinner with Harry Rosensweig. He
is just the same to me, and if you overlook the lack of hair, it seems
like we talked yesterday. It has been 50 years and it was amazing.
I have had such mixed feelings about this event, but as I begin to think
who else is here at the Hilton, I realize that we are the same, just older,
more gray, and maybe a few wrinkles, (not me of course). Each of us are
thinking we will look younger than everyone else.
I don't think it is possible, except for me of course.
I had forgotten how green Michigan is, and how muggy it is. I am not used
to air you can't see, and I am trying to get used to that. Also, every
person I see who looks old, worries me. I think it might be someone I know, and
went to school with, so I will be glad when we get name tags.
It is going to be a real challenge to remember names and events, but I
guess we all are the same, so it shouldn't make a difference. I have to
realize that after half a century, we can't be expected to remember everything,
and that is my story and I am sticking to it.
I head to Bitely to see Denny Harrington today, with Coffee, (who also
joined us for dinner), and yes, it was Yesterdog. The hot dogs were as good
as I remember, but where did all those kids come from,. and did we look
that mangy when we were that age?
Why can't they be like we were, perfect in every way? What's the matter
with kids today?
And they don't even know who Paul Linde was.
