Subject: Some questions

It was great to see so many "old folk" looking so young! We ain't
our grandparents' senior citizens!
A few questions came up from various people, and maybe we can pool
our collective synapses (maybe even get them firing together more
or less in unison) for some answers.
An easy one with the answer: Will the homepage/e-list continue after the
reunion?
Sure - we can keep it going as long as somebody is alive to deal with
it. We'll move both over to a permanent location in the next two weeks
Harder ones that maybe somebody can answer:
1) There was some collective memory joggling: Does anybody remember
a homeroom incident back in spring '59 when we were trying to decide
on what our give to Ottawa should be and there was some heated
discussion both within the class and between Mr. Newton and Mr Love?
Didn't they have a bit of a shouting match and one of them stormed out
of the auditorium?
2) For ALGER folk: There were some students in our class from "the
projects." I don't know if that was the name, but they lived down
off Alger/Kalamazoo in housing set up right after the war for
returning GIs who inexpensive housing. We had at least one (Charles B)
and maybe two in our class. Does anybody remember these, when they
tore them down, and what they were actually called?
3) Somebody mentioned Saturday night a senior "prank" that the class of
'56 or '57 pulled. The rumor was that they put somebody's volkswagen
on the OHHS roof. I recall hearing the rumor, but as far as I know,
it was a myth/hoax. Somebody (don't recall who) swore it was true.
Does anybody else recall the rumor?
4) There was a time, usually in the spring, that cigarette companies
came and handed out free samples of cigarettes to us outside of
school. The last I recall this happening was around 1956 (as a
freshman). Does anybody recall the *last* time the freebies were
handed out?
Sidenote: ALGER - for those who haven't driven by the old school and
seen what replaced it: Much of the green space has been replaced by
a monstrous middle-school that looks like a contemporary prison.
It might be fun to put up a before/after pic on the homepage if somebody
can snap a pic of the current monstrosity and send it over.
I putting together a couple of paragraphs of goofy memories that
we collectively experienced, so if you have any questions you want
answered or have a wierd collective memory to share, send it over.
